Hey everybody!

Oct 27, 2014

So this week has been pretty good! Elder Coy really knows a lot about missionary work, and likes to work hard. We’ve been knocking quite a few doors and going to some of the apartment complexes, which are all over in this area. We found about ten referrals for the Hermanas, the Spanish speaking sisters that cover our area (the Spanish 5th branch covers the same area as the whole stake, and we only cover about half a ward). We knock on some people’s doors, and start talking to them, and they just look confused, and then say no… and we pick up that they don’t speak much English. Well we don’t speak a lot of Spanish, so we can’t teach them at all, but Elder Coy knows enough to say we’re missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints, and to ask if they believe in Christ and would like Spanish missionaries to come back, and for the most part they say that they would.

One of them actually became a promising investigator for the Hermanas and they got to teach him the restoration! It’s been fun to help them out in that way, because there are a decent amount of Spanish speaking people here (enough to need missionaries that speak Spanish) but they don’t live all in the same place so they really can’t knock doors and have to rely on referrals, and using the former investigator list in the area book, and just trying them again. Of course member referrals would be the ideal, but we rarely get any of those. I’m not sure if that’s just a thing out here, or all over. So I think that we’ve gotten maybe one or two promising referrals total that i’ve been here, so we really just have to go out and do the finding ourselves, because we need to get the people to teach.

We did meet this guy, that we didn’t get to really teach much, because he did most of the talking. He let us in, and then kind of went all preacher mode on us. Not in a bad way or anything, he just kept talking. He’s active in church (not sure where) and wants to become a pastor, and talked to us for a while. He was actually teaching us sound doctrine! He talked about how Christ was the center of everything, and that we need to focus on Him and everything else comes after that. He talked about how we need to really study scripture every day, and take time to understand it, not speed read it, and that we have to read and study the same stuff multiple times, and that each time we get something new. It was a pretty cool experience!

Love all of you a lot!
Elder Hayden
