Well it’s 2015

Jan 5, 2015

Well it’s gotten colder already. It’s going to be in the teens this week a lot, I think, and a whopping -2 degree high for Wednesday. Wooo. At least we have the car this week, but this is what I was expecting from winter out here anyways. Transfers are also next week and I’m expecting that I will be transferred, because Elder Coy literally has one transfer left, so if I finished him off, then I would stay here another one, because they don’t like to “white wash” or put two new (not new to the mission necessarily, just to that area) elders to the area in if at all possible (for putting two sisters they call it “pink washing”) , so then I would end up being in my first area for nine months, which isn’t unheard of but I think it’s pretty rare so I’m most likely going to be moved, but we’ll see what happens.

So this week was pretty good, and we got to teach a little more that we have the past few weeks so that was great! We also went on exchanges again and I went with Elder Garner in my area, and we did a lot of tracting. We knocked doors for a few hours and it was pretty cold, like 10 degrees or so, and we found a few referrals for the Hermanas (Spanish sisters that also cover our area, because the Spanish branch they’re in is the size of the stake) and one potential investigator for us. But I had a really great experience where we knocked on this door in an apartment building and a lady in her late twenties/early thirties and we introduced ourselves as missionaries, and I asked if she had ever sat down and talked with missionaries before and she said that she hadn’t, but that she had talked to them a little bit before and knew some members back in some other state and liked what she was learning, but for some reason she wasn’t interested in us coming by right now, but Elder Garner was talking with her and she was telling us all of this, when I just thought that I needed to give her the extra Book of Mormon that I had in my bag. So I started undoing the little clips on my bag and asked her if she had ever heard of the Book of Mormon. She said she hadn’t and I introduced what it was and she asked if we had a copy she could have, and I gave her the one that I had. It was interesting because lots of times I don’t know what to do at a door approach or even what to say, and in that instance I felt totally confident that she needed that book and I sort of acted without thinking much at all. I know that the Spirit can work through all of us to the blessing of many of Father in Heaven’s children, and who knows if years from now she’ll have read it and gain a testimony and join the church? I don’t, but I know that God does, and I know that I can still pray for it to happen, because there is power in prayer.

So that is something that happened this week and I hope that you all had a great New Year’s and that you all made some awesome resolutions (don’t think I’ve ever really done that my whole life, but hey it’s never too late to start) and I love you all!
